Amazing that they held up so well after 6 years in the swamp.

The other Heels from the swamp (LK Bennett wedding heels) are still wearable after 6 years in the swamp!

The refurbishing just started 
As the shoes from the swamp arrived they were dried and the leather had become brittle.
This is a very common effect if leather gets wet and dry again for a long periode and six years in the swamp is quiet a long periode. If you try to wear the shoes in that condition the leather will break into pieces.
So first to do was making the leather smooth again.
As an experienced shoe archaeologist and restorer I use first a special moisture nourish and after that Balistol oil from castor oil plant.
Both substances should be massaged into the dry leather until the leader becomes smooth again.
By the way the moss withstands every try to wipe it from the leather as if it refuses to give up eating the shoes
Nex step was to insert shoe spanners in a large size into the shoes just to expand the leather for dried leather shrinks a lot.

Oh and for the record there are still some heels out there in the swamp and I have just added a new pair to the swamp ready for the return of the wet season!!! A pair of White satin open toe T strap bridal heels...
