As you all know i have a webshot acount and from looking at the counters you guys and gals have been there five hundred thousand times!! (glad you like the pics)

This is the problem, the account is due for renewal and for the last month i have been trying to renew it,the online options won't work the fax number won't work and i have even left a phone message which no one has replied too!

So the account will close at the begining of feb.

I have all the photos backed up so no problem there, but what should i do, should i open a new account with another company(any surgestions would be nice) or do a website.now i am not that computer minded so any programming isn't going to happen!

All i really want to do is display my photos so it doesn't need to be too complicated.

what do you all think i should do?

Help!

Hi mudcole,

with all pictures you have, my suggestion is to open a website and put all pictures you've done into dynamics pages (so, you can update easily without modifying the site/html code).

But, it depend on the price you pay for the storage on the webshots website. I don't know the price, but creating a website could the solution in long term. If you need help to select an hosting plan, just send me a PM or write me an email.

mudcole i do have an idea, you could do one or the other but you could give your pictures to hhds/dh and/or me and we could put them on our site and then when you make a set we put it onto our members area or public area and then people can still see them and everyone will be happy...but then again you could always make your own site and im sure both me and hhds/dh would be happy to help you make the site, only problem is with the amount of pictures you have might be a problem with the amount of webhosting space you are given...of course you could buy some space like from surfspeedy or the like which gives you 2 gig. of space and 65 gig of bandwidth.

hope this helps

I think i would prefer to host the webspace rather then just sending them to someone else and expecting them to post them.

So if i did go the website route what would i be expecting to pay, and how easy are off the shelf websites to operate?

From the amount of people looking at the site will this create me problems.

right well for my web hostings with surfspeedy it costs me $19.99 a month which is about ?119 a year and thats for 2gig of web space and 65 gig of bandwidth (the bandwidth is what is used up when someone looks at a picture or downloads a video). with the amount of pictures you got (unless its well under 25 meg (which it might be i dun know) i wouldnt advise the free options like 50megs.com unless you want to upload pictures then take them off again)

the free sites that use a site builder id stay well away from because they are nothing but trouble (or at least they were for me, someone else can comment otherwise) but i'd use a wysiwyg html editor like microsoft frontpageTM or macromedia dreamweaverTM (for anyone who doesnt know wysiwyg means what you see is what you get).

frontpage is a very easy html based editor that is very addictive as in dreamweaver but dreamweaver costs a hell of a lot more (but as a tip you can get them both for about ?10 or so from ebay or i could give you a copy of mine, ok not strickly legit(s.p) but well every webmaster will help someone who wants to "join the ranks" as it were) .

and to be totally honist/serious mudcole it would be easier to give to either me or hhds cuz then you dun need to worry about anything because hhds has unlimited bandwidth and space (correct me if im wrong hhds) and i think i have more than enough space at the moment and it saves you from needing to worry about the web page and web space.

but if your determind to go via a webpage of your own i'll give you a run down of what you would prolly need to get:

Sorry about that, college fire alarm went off, now as i was saying

you will need to prolly get the following:

- web address (a .org.uk .co.uk cost about ?5 for 2 years from 1&1.com)
- web space (2 gig from surfspeedy, or whatever 1&1.com offers)
- frontpage or dreamweaver software (unless you have microsoft office which has frontpage installed to it)
- some time (took me about a day to make jsplace and and upload the pictures it will take longer for you unless you have broadband)

also please note that .co.uk's are very rare to find one that isnt already made.

if i have gotten any of this stuff wrong please correct me

:) :D  J

If you dont want the hastle of a website, then i surjest you open another webshots account, and repost the material, especially for the price your paying,as we previously discussed when you hit the 2000 image mark you will need to start rotating the images.....for you i suspect it would be the easiest option!
But my pervious offer still stands!
